Well-prepared goods travel better, load faster and arrive in good condition. Whether you are shipping a few boxes or several pallets, a few simple rules make a difference.
How to prepare a pallet properly?
A correctly stacked pallet must remain stable during loading, transit and unloading:
- use a pallet in good condition, with no broken boards; - place the heaviest loads at the bottom and the lightest at the top; - keep the goods within the edges of the pallet; - build even stacks, without significant gaps; - wrap the entire load, including the pallet, to secure it together; - add protective corner guards for fragile products.
How to package parcels and boxes?
Choose sturdy boxes suited to the weight of the contents. Cushion items inside to prevent them from moving, seal carefully with strong adhesive tape and mark parcels that are fragile or must be transported in a particular orientation.
What information should appear on parcels?
Each pallet or parcel must be clearly identifiable. Include at least the recipient's name, delivery address, total number of parcels in the shipment (for example 2/5) and, if necessary, the markings “fragile” or “this way up”.
What should be communicated to the carrier before the quotation?
The carrier needs precise information to plan the right vehicle and loading time:
- the number of pallets or parcels; - the dimensions and weight of each; - the nature of the goods; - loading and unloading conditions: loading bay, pallet truck, floor, access; - site opening hours.
Pallet transport is always subject to the vehicle's capacity limits: accurate information prevents some of the goods from being unable to be loaded.
Should handling be arranged?
If no loading bay or lifting equipment is available, indicate this. Handling assistance can then be included in the quotation.
